CSX’s Purchasing & Materials group handles the acquisition, delivery and management of items and services necessary for railroad operations across our system.

Areas handled by Purchasing & Materials

  • Direct Materials & Services: Supports direct railroad operations including locomotive and car operations, work equipment and vehicles, train control, ballast, ties, rail, construction materials and fuel.
  • Indirect Materials and Services: Supports technology hardware and software, tools, gases, utilities, travel, procurement-card operations, administrative supplies, outside services and consultants, and intermodal operations.
  • Supplier Quality and Development: Supports supplier development, quality reviews and audits, warranty management, RailMarketplace, and long term strategic initiatives.
  • Material Management: Supports warehousing and warehouse operations, logistics, scrap sales and inventory management.
  • Customer Assistance, Systems & Training (CAST): Supports ongoing system applications and file maintenance, EDI and web transaction support, customer dispute resolution, process improvement, and general administrative resources.
