Conductor Training Program: Join the new railroad generation
Conductors are train service employees in charge of line-of-road train movements, yard switching and train make-up.
  • All locomotive engineers start their railroad careers as conductors
  • 90% of yardmasters began their railroad careers as conductors
  • 95% of front line supervisors began their railroad careers as conductors

To become a conductor, you must:
  • Complete a six-week freight conductor program at the CSX Railroad Education & Development Institute (REDI) in Atlanta
  • Complete an average of 16 weeks of on-the-job training

The REDI is a state-of-the-art facility that welcomes about 3,500 students annually who are learning to become locomotive engineers and conductors, track and signal technicians, mechanics and yardmasters.
