Diesel Mechanic - Coal Pier




Job Summary 

Maintain and repair machinery and heavy equipment.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities 

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Inspect, maintain and repair machinery and heavy equipment, i.e., bulldozers, front-end loaders and other equipment




Pay Rate 

$24.02/hour full rate

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High School diploma/GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Welding experience
  • Heavy mechanical repair experience



  • Preferred Qualifications 

  • Four years diesel mechanic experience


  • Basic Competencies 

    • Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications -- both general and technical)
    • Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
    • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)



    Physical Requirements 

    • Heavy work, lifting up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
    • Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis



    Employment Conditions 

    • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
    • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime and various shift work
    • Wear protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses
    • Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination
    • Must pass all required assessments
    • Must pass a background screening
    • May require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
    • Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and strength test
    • Work in a setting requiring frequent revision of work assignments
    • This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement; membership is required



    Environmental Conditions 

  • Work outside in all weather conditions, in confined spaces, and/or at elevated heights.
